In place of corrupt speech we need edifying speech. We need speech that builds up folks instead of bringing folks down. We must speak encouraging word that give grace to the hearers. We must be people who are encouragers like Barnabas.
Paul adds, “And don’t grieve God’s Holy Spirit” (v.30) The Spirit can be lied to, offended, dishonored, and disobeyed. Sins of the tongue can lead to the withdrawal of the influence of the Holy Spirit.
Christians must ask will what I am doing or saying please or grieve the Holy Spirit?
