Text: Rev. 22:12
INTRO: According to Eph. 2:8-10, salvation is a gift of God. One is saved if he or she obeys the Gospel. We cannot work our way into heaven, but after we are saved we should be the best workers the Lord Jesus has. Reward are given to Christians at the Judgment Seat of Christ based on how they worked for the Lord while here on earth. (Matt. 16:27)
- A most revealing scripture on rewards is found in 1 Cor. 3:8-15.
- Gold, silver, precious stones. This is building with eternal material
- Wood, hay and stubble. This is building with earthly materials.
- The believer who builds on Christ with eternal materials shall receive a reward. Those who build with temporal materials will see their works burned up at the Judgment Seat of Christ. The believer will suffer loss-not the loss of salvation, but the loss of rewards.
- First of all, every believer will be rewarded according to his/her own labor. I Cor. 3:8; we do not labor for our own salvation.
- “We are laborers together with God.” Not for salvation but for rewards.
- I Cor. 3:11; The believer is to build on the Lord Jesus Christ, the only true foundation.
- The believer has a choice of 2 kinds of building material.
Rewards are called “Crowns” in the Word of God. We will have more to say about “Crowns” in another article/message.
